| Hello, Welcome to The 411! Our skincare newsletter will update you every month with new additions to the website, interesting news articles or trends in skincare and of course, a great deal, coupon or giveaway. The 411= Information We give you "The 411 On Skincare"! Tip Of The Month Leave the reds and pinks for your Valentines Day bouquets, not for chapped and dry winter skin. Keep your natural healthy glow by moisturizing with a heavier cream than you do in the summer. Creams labeled with "intense", "night" or are oil-based are great choices. Make sure to apply lip balm regularly to keep your lips from chapping. And don't forget to drink your water! These steps will ensure your rosy cheeks won't be from dry, chapped skin. 5 Winter Skincare Questions With Karen Heidelberg Karen Heidelberg, MD, is a dermatologist in Detroit, MI. She sat down and answered these 5 top winter skincare questions. It's a quick read, so see if you learn something new! Customer Q & A What Is "Winter Itch" And Why Do I Get It? Winter poses a unique set of problems for skin (unless you live in the tropics, that is). A combination of low temperatures, low humidity and wind cause skin to lose its natural layer of protective oils. It doesn't get any better inside, either. Heaters pull moisturize out of the air and your out of your skin as well. All these factors together can cause dry, itchy and flaky skin. So how to avoid the Winter Itch? Start by keeping water cool enough that your skin doesn't turn red. This includes baths, showers and hand washing. If the water is too hot it will strip your skin of its oils. Always moisturize! Like in our "Tip Of The Month" use a heavier oil-based cream during the winter and moisturize after bathing, handwashing and whenever your skin is feeling dry and tight. Exfoliate dry skin away (dry skin will prevent your moisturizers from doing the best job they can) once a week. Dry brushing is a great way to do your whole body. Finally, get a humidifier. You can get a warm-steam or a cool-mist version. Some even do both! I keep mine by my side of the bed so I get the most benefit while I sleep, but it doesn't really matter where you put it. All that matters is you get one. Try these tips and see if your Winter Itch becomes a thing of winters past!
